Finding and Preparing Ethnic Food Recipes

Before we discuss how to find and prepare traditional Chinese food recipes, let’s first clarify what traditional means. Traditionally, this meant that it was made of something in its original style, without replacement or modification.

Finding traditional Chinese food recipes can be quite tricky, as most of the recipes you will find on the internet have been modified to make them faster or use easily available ingredients like a mixture.

Many people are even confused by the traditional recipes here. When preparing traditional ethnic dishes, most substitutes or “mixtures” are prohibited or, if done, will spoil the entire recipe.

When looking for recipes online, try to find websites dedicated solely to Chinese recipes. Do a little research before choosing the recipe you want to make and make sure you get a traditional recipe.

If you choose a non-traditional dish or a cooking version, keep in mind that if you prepare it for someone who is familiar with traditional dishes, you will likely be told that your recipe is not “right”!

Another good thing to keep in mind is that if you live in an area with a limited source of ethnic grocery stores, or if they don’t have a great variety – then you may have a very hard time finding anything, traditional items can be hard to find.

Traditional Chinese Food Recipes to Prepare. Explore the ethnic food trails of your local grocery store and try visiting a local Asian market near you to see what’s on offer in your area. This can save you a lot of frustration when trying to prepare a new dish.

When preparing your recipe, make sure you have read all the previous recipes. Some traditional recipes take hours or even DAYS to cook properly. So if you wait until the last minute without reading the recipe first, it could affect your efforts to prepare it.

Let them buy your ingredients first, know what time frame you want them to be prepared, and make sure you fully understand the specific instructions before you start. You can find recipes for traditional Chinese food online through some recipe websites, forums, or message boards.

Another great resource for them to check out the cooking areas at their local library, especially if they have an area dedicated to traditional or ethnic cuisine. Major booksellers are also great resources for cookbooks. You can even order a custom order book if they don’t have what you need.
